Old understandings, new insights…

Listen to this daily worship
Isaiah 40: 27-28 (NIVUK)
27
Why do you complain, Jacob?
Why do you say, Israel,
‘My way is hidden from the Lord;
my cause is disregarded by my God’?28
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
Do you know, sometimes it seems that it never rains but it pours! My wife and I run two fairly elderly cars. We often debate about going down to one, but feel it’s always good to have a back up — invariably we’re flying off to events in different directions at the same time. Last month, my car went in for a service and was threatening not to come back unless we paid a ransom for a lot of repairs! Meanwhile we had to make an emergency visit to a sick relative in another city and I had to conduct worship at a local church, while battling a cold (well — man flu actually). Guess what? Yes — the other car wouldn’t start.
As you can imagine we felt overwhelmed and forgotten by God. How could He let all this happen at once.
Isaiah 40: 27-28 reminds us that even when we feel forgotten or overwhelmed, God sees us and knows all about our struggles. Today’s reading questions why we doubt God's awareness of our situation, then reassures us of His eternal nature, power, and wisdom. It’s a comforting reminder that God doesn't get fed up or miss what we’re going through— He is always there, always understanding. In moments of doubt or fatigue, this verse calls us back to trust in His unshakable strength and care.
What about our dilemma? Well we took a breath, we prayed and things worked out okay. Friends came to the rescue with a lift, someone else took worship and eventually both cars were fixed. Still not ideal, but it was important to remember that God was there through it all.
Prayer:
Lord God,
When we feel forgotten or unseen,
remind us You never grow weary
and never overlook our pain.
You are the everlasting God,
full of wisdom and strength,
and You know us more deeply than we can ever imagine.
Help us to trust in Your presence
when we feel weak, and to know that You are always there for us,
even when we can’t see it.
Thank You for Your abiding care.
Amen
