Old night, new morning…

Lamentations 3: 22-23 (NIVUK)
22
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.23
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
God’s love, God’s mercies, aren’t just ancient, or timeless, or eternal — each morning they are new. God’s love is always fresh, always immediate. Always at hand.
Because love is always new.
Love is stronger than hate, stronger than fear, stronger than sorrow. But it’s also newer. Because while hate festers, fear loiters, and sorrow lingers — love always returns and renews and finds new expression.
Hate and fear and sorrow will wear away at the same grooves, running downhill. But love runs uphill, and finds new paths every day. Hate, fear and sorrow close down avenues whereas love is always creative, always defiant, always ‘new and improved’. For love is both deeply familiar and constantly surprising. It’s what we’ve known all along and yet better than we ever knew.
God has given us this.
My little daughter often says, “It’s funny being a human!” And then she chuckles and says, “I love being a human.”
And she’s absolutely right.
Prayer:
Dear God
Thank you for my humanity
it’s a funny thing
but a lovely thing.
Grant us the courage to follow
the ever new paths of love.
Amen.
