Old day, new dawn…

Listen to this daily worship
John 21: 7-8 (NIVUK)
7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’ As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, ‘It is the Lord,’ he wrapped his outer garment round him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. 8 The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred metres.
For Peter there were two dawns that morning. The first, at daybreak as the sun broke on their lifeless nets. And a second dawning as he recognises Christ.
As the sun first played across the water: emptiness, rawness, hollow pitted stomachs.
As the light of recognition plays across Peter’s face: fullness, giddiness, forgotten nets.
It’s impossible to him, that this could be true. That Jesus would come here and now, an echo, a rhyme. But Peter is unafraid of the impossible. Always has been. It’s not so much a decision as it is an innate response, to turn to that figure on the shore. To close the gap.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help us close the gap to you,
You stand
close at hand
only a little way off
arms open.
Would that we would see you
Would that we would hear you
Would that we would come to you.
Amen.
