A new name

Revelation 2:17

Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches. To everyone who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give a white stone, and on the white stone is written a new name that no one knows except the one who receives it.

Lord, you know my name,
My birth name.
The name my parents gave me
Which has followed me through life
The sum of me.
The name I have inhabited
And grown into.
The name that tells my story.
The good that I have done
And the ill.
My parents named me
But you gave me my name
Before I was born.
You saw me in the womb
And followed all the days of my life.
You watched over me in joy
And in sorrow.
Rejoicing with me as I followed you;
Weeping when I slipped and fell.
Waiting when I turned from you
And welcoming me with open arms
When I re-turned to you.

I see you, and I know you
But not fully, or clearly.
You are veiled from me, misty, dark.

One day I will see you clearly
My name will be written
In your heart and on your hand.
The name that is the sum of me
The new me that you have made
Transformed
Renewed
Redeemed
And on that day you will give me
A new name on a white stone.
