1 Corinthians 13:9 (GNT)

9 For our gifts of knowledge and of inspired messages are only partial;

My dear old Mum of 90 years young loves her jigsaws. They help when life is lonely and the television is “rubbish”, as it often can be. Sometimes the jigsaw can become addictive though and take her way past bedtime! She is desperate to add another piece and create the bigger picture. But don’t we all feel like that? We all want to see the bigger picture, we all want to see that bit further, we all want to know more of God. Nothing wrong with that, but we do well to acknowledge now that what we know is only partial. Some, and you’ve met them, think they have God all wrapped up, think they know all there is to know about God and life and his Church, God’s official spokespeople! God cannot be boxed in, none of us have Him all wrapped up. But He gives us glimpses, we might call them jigsaw pieces, and as we travel on we see something more of His Kingdom emerge.

PRAYER:

Gracious God, give us patience, give us faith, as we put together the pieces of the bigger picture that is your Kingdom. Help us to keep our eyes and ears and hearts open that we may rejoice in the glimpses that come our way. Save us from smug superiority, rather give us the humility of Christ, for every day is a school day for us as we follow him. Amen.
