Luke 7:37-39

" A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them."

"Lord, I have done many things in life which I am ashamed of.
In the night watches they come to torment me,
and remind me of the kind of person I truly am,
and they leave me washed out,
wretched and mournful.

Sometimes I see the peace of God in others,
and a serenity that does not often come my way.
So I follow on, at the back.
I want to belong, but fear to try,
for how can others accept and love me
when sometimes I cannot even accept and love myself?

Yet you come to me afresh and tell me,
as you told a woman so long ago,
that my sins are forgiven,
I am accepted
and I do belong.

You touch me with the deepest tenderness
and the hurts begin to melt away.
Then as the tears dry and the shadow passes,
I realise afresh how much you love me
and how much I really do belong.
I praise you Lord"

Amen.
