Body, Mind and Spirit

1 Corinthians 6:15-17

Don't you know that your body is part of Christ's body? Would you prostitute Christ's body, defile it with unclean sex or drugs or other sins? Rather join yourself with God and be one with him in the spirit.

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Definition of Health, WHO (World Health Organisation).

Father, can I talk to you about me? I just can't get my head round how amazing I am.  I don't mean the things I can do or say or achieve; I just mean me!  This body of mine is amazing, the one you have given me and which has grown with me over the years.  I admit that sometimes I complain about it - it could do with being slimmer or fitter or better shaped - but when I really stop and think about it I just know I will never really understand how wonderfully it all works.  I just know that I am living proof of how amazing your creation is.  So many millions upon millions of cells all doing more or less what they are meant to do so that I can think and make choices and see the wonders of nature and enjoy good things.

You took a great risk giving us so much freedom of choice and I know I often don't make the wisest choices.  Yet you have blessed my life in so many ways.  You have opened my eyes to see the colours of the sunrise.  You have opened my ears to hear the symphony of bird song.  You have blessed me with a loving family and a community of true friends.  As I climb the hill each morning my soul sings - even if the clouds are low or the wind is strong or the rain is shrouding the horizon.  It sings because I am free to be there and because all around me creation is alive.

I wish everyone could experience and understand the sheer joy of living and not spend so much time trying to find shortcuts to success through unfair business practices or using drugs in sport or trading on the weaknesses of others.

Father you want us to live life in all its fullness.  Help us to play our part in looking after our bodies and minds.  Help us to keep our faith strong.  Bind us all together with your spirit of truth and love so that together we can be the body of Christ in the world.
