“We see Jesus helping and encouraging folk to develop individual gifts and talents that can be used to serve God and other people.” From the Scargill Community promises.Image - Wooden Scargill Cross, J Cathcart.
At Scargill, our day is structured by praying and eating together, meetings with God and each other. The focus of the day is not how much work we can get done but the relationships we foster in the process of living the day. The holy pauses to pray throughout the day call us back to live in the present moment.
What I love about the picture of the church in Acts 2 is its spontaneity. It depends on the Holy Spirit to bring life to the apostles’ words. It generously shares resources, offering and receiving hospitality. It widens the invitation of God to be involved in this new reality to people from around the world. Their hunger for God is exciting. Lives are changed by accepting who Jesus is, and lived out through diverse relationships with others. They are messily trying to understand what they have experienced. They trust in Jesus and receive from the Spirit. What a beautifully chaotic place it must have been, as new folk were drawn into the life of the believers.
When the gifts and talents of individuals are generously put to the service of God then new and wonderful things happen.

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
43 Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
