PRAYING: Against the odds…?

Psalm 118: 6-13

Psalm 118: 6-13

With the Lord on my side I do not fear.
What can mortals do to me?

The Lord is on my side to help me;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in mortals.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in princes.

All nations surrounded me;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

They surrounded me like bees;
they blazed like a fire of thorns;
in the name of the Lord I cut them off!

I was pushed hard, so that I was falling,
but the Lord helped me.

ACTS 4 v27 For in this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place.

Lord sometimes the odds seem stacked or lined up against your church, just as they did You.

It causes us to cower, to hide, to close and lock the doors in our fear and anxiety, our uncertainty.
The threats can seem great. The odds against us and yet…

Lord it is not dependant upon our strength, cleverness or abilities,
but begins in recognising that our confidence is in You.
You are our refuge, with You on our side we do not fear but take hold of hope.

Pray Psalm 2.
